read moreFrankston Basketball has announced that the first stage of its planned facility expansion project will commence in early 2016 as a result of it having obtained $4.9 million from the Second Round of the National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF).
The funding, coupled with $2.5 million from the Victorian Government, $4 million from Frankston Council and $1 million from the FDBA means the $12.5 million project can now start.
Plans include expanding the stadium to a 10-court centre, including a show court with 2,000 seats to host major events, car parking and landscaping.
Frankston Basketball General Manager Nathan Jolly said that the funding was a historic milestone for Frankston Basketball and the wider Frankston region, stating “with this announcement, the balance of funding required for Stage 1 to commence has been achieved which is a fantastic result for our membership.
“It is remarkable to think that in 18 months time the Frankston basketball stadium will be transformed into the benchmark basketball facility in Australia while becoming the leading community facility in our region that will drive sporting & social outcomes on and off the court.
“Everyone involved with Frankston Basketball and the wider sport should be extremely proud and we all can't wait for construction to commence early next year.”
