A working agreement that could help end the long-running governance saga within Football Federation Australia (FFA) has reportedly been agreed in advance of an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Key parties say the fresh agreement reaches a consensus position on the future governance of the sport in Australia.

In a joint statement issued yesterday, FFA members advised “the nine member federations, the 10 A-League clubs and Professional Football Australia believe the new resolutions reflect a unity of purpose and shared ambition for Australian football to realise its remarkable potential.”

The agreement includes a broader representation of stakeholders within the FFA Congress, establishing a women's football council and forming various standing committees to improve stakeholder engagement and strengthen governance.

The agreement also covers improved financial reporting and a "defined, transparent and collaborative whole-of-game pathway for professional football" and includes an alternative A-League governance model.

Barring a last-minute intervention by FFA Chairman Steven Lowy, the agreement on changes to the FFA Constitution could be ratified this week.
