Works on extending Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi have been halted by a major fire.
The fire, which commenced in an under-construction area of the waterpark on Friday afternoon, was brought under control by emergency services with Abu Dhabi authorities advising that nobody was injured in the incident.
The incident saw thick black smoke was seen rising above the attraction and the adjacent Ferrari World and Yas Marina Circuit, with Abu Dhabi Police sealing off routes around the area, with traffic on Yas Bay redirected to allow emergency responders access to the scene.
Abu Dhabi Police advised on social media “teams from Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority have controlled the fire that broke out at a construction site adjacent to Yas Waterworld on Yas Island earlier today.
"The fire did not result in any injuries and has been successfully extinguished."
Miral, the waterpark's developer, is currently undertaking a 1.8 hectare expansion to the attraction which will offer 18 new rides and attractions including the region’s highest waterslide.
As of today, Yas Waterworld has advised that full operations have resumed, with the attraction ready to welcome visitors over the weekend’s Eid holiday.
Yas Waterworld General Manager, Ahmed Al Mansoori assured visitors that safety checks were being undertaken at the attraction, advising “our priority is the safety of our guests and staff, and we are working diligently to restore normal operations.”
