Fremantle Leisure Centre offers free entry to celebrate reopening of its indoor pools

Fremantle Leisure Centre offers free entry to celebrate reopening of its indoor pools
December 4, 2022

The indoor pools at the Fremantle Leisure Centre are on track to reopen before Christmas and the public are being offered free casual entry to the pools on 23rd-24th December to thank them for their patience during the upgrades

The centre’s indoor 25 metre pool and family leisure pool have been closed since September to allow for the replacement of the roof.

In October last year the lightweight polycarbonate roof covering the pavilion over the pools had to be removed due to storm damage.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the new roof was almost complete and pools are due to reopen on 23rd December.

“Although the leisure centre’s outdoor 50 metre pool has remained open throughout the project, we recognise the closure of the indoor pools has been an inconvenience for our valued patrons,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

“To thank them for their patience we’ll be offering free casual entry to the pools on 23rd-24th December.

“The new roof is looking great, so it won’t be long now until we can get back in there and enjoy a much more comfortable facility with a fresh new look and feel.

“I’m grateful to our team and our contractor, local company ICS Australia, who have pulled out all stops to get the work finished while delivering a high-quality job.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for a huge summer of holiday fun.”

The roof replacement project involved cleaning, sandblasting and repainting the existing steel pavilion structure before the installation of new roof sheeting.

The new roof is made of thermally insulated panels rather than the previous lightweight polycarbonate sheeting, which will make the pool environment warmer in winter and provide better UV protection in summer.

There will also be new café blinds and improved ventilation along the sides of the pavilion and upgraded lighting, lightning protection system and electrics.

The Fremantle Leisure Centre swimming pools and fitness centre will be closed on Christmas Day, but open again on Boxing Day.

The leisure centre has four heated pools – an eight-lane 50m outdoor pool, an undercover 25m pool, playground pool and a program pool for therapy and rehabilitation.

It also has a fully equipped fitness centre supervised by qualified gym staff, and offers a range of group fitness classes including yoga, pilates, zumba and circuits.

Full membership at the leisure centre includes unlimited access to the pools and fitness centre, entry to group fitness classes, a fitness appraisal and exercise program designed by qualified professionals, use of the creche, free parking and a 20% discount in the sports shop.
