read moreJunior athletes in Perth will be able to travel further afield to achieve their sporting dreams and sporting clubs will receive a timely boost to their stocks of equipment, thanks to a new Western Australia Government initiative.
Announcing the extension of the $4million Supporting Community Sport initiative, which first opened in regional areas late last year, to the Perth metropolitan area, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron stated that “the $2million metropolitan component of the scheme provides financial support to junior athletes who need to travel in pursuit of State and national representation.
“It also provides one-off $500 subsidies to clubs looking to increase or upgrade shared sporting equipment which is accessible to all club members.
“We’re committed to helping young athletes realise their dreams of competing at a higher level. This is also a great opportunity for local clubs to upgrade some of their equipment or purchase additional equipment in order to meet the needs of new and future members.”
The initiative consists of the Community Sporting Club Equipment Subsidy Scheme and the Junior Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme (for athletes aged 13 to 21).
