Global Tourism Economy Forum opens in Macau

Global Tourism Economy Forum opens in Macau
September 17, 2013

The annual Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTE-Forum) opens in Macau today, presenting a high-level gathering for key decision makers in global tourism to share ideas on how the industry positively impact the world economy.

Established in 2012 to drive a new chapter in tourism industries across the world with a China focus, the annual Global Tourism Economy Forum was conceived by the China Chamber of Tourism, is hosted by the Macau SAR Government and coordinated by the Global Tourism Economy Research Centre.

The three-day event is an interactive discussion platform designed to capture a macro view of the interplay between tourism and other major economies, and the momentum that each builds upon the growth of the other.

Through discussions between delegates and tourism stakeholders, the forum will uncover a wealth of opportunities in the industry, as well as their power to drive social and economic development.

By bridging the economic advantages and resources of the East with the innovation and expertise of the West, the forum aims to spark beneficial partnerships that have the power to shape the industry towards sustainable growth on a global scale.

With the theme 'Regenerating Economies: Investment in Travel and Tourism', the second GTE-Forum features more than 40 ministerial officials and private leaders from globally-renowned corporations to more in-depth discussions on why and how investment in tourism industry can revitalise and mobilise global economic growth.

The second edition is expected to command the same force as the inaugural edition, with the attendance of over 1,000 delegates from around the world, including delegations from more than 10 provinces and autonomous regions from China.

Approximately 170 local and overseas media representatives will cover this event.

Introducing the event, Cheung So Mui Cecília, Chief of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau SAR Government explains "through successful organisation of the inaugural Global Tourism Economy Forum last year, Macau has demonstrated respective capabilities and assets as well as proven itself as an ideal exchange platform.

"This year we once again bring industry leaders and elites from around the world together to discuss the insights to drive economic growth by leveraging tourism, while there will be over 100 local and overseas media representatives to join the Forum.

"Macau's commitment to organise three consecutive Global Tourism Economy Forums allows the city to fully facilitate its platform role that can bring significant influence to elevate Macau's international reputation."

The second edition of GTE-Forum will present an impressive line-up of global leaders, including:

• Su Rong, Vice Chairman of The National Committee of The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference
• Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao SAR
• Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference cum Forum Chairman of GTE-Forum
