The Goulburn Railway Tennis Club and Goulburn Tennis Club have joined forces to bring a Tennis NSW Seniors Tournament to the city of Goulburn from 31st March to 2nd April 2017.

This state- wide competition is run over the entire year, across multiple cities and regional locations throughout NSW.

Tennis Seniors NSW, which is linked to Tennis Australia and the International Tennis Federation, promotes state and national competitions and encourages social tennis in the seniors age bracket.

Looking forward to the event, Tournament Director and Goulburn Railway Tennis Club Secretary, David Ridley explains “it’s a great opportunity to bring a high level of veteran’s tennis to Goulburn.

“There aren’t many sanctioned tennis competitions in this region and we want to support and encourage ongoing engagement in the game, regardless of age.”

Commenting on the wider benefits of the event, Goulburn Tennis Club’s President Natalie Rowsell stated “this could potentially be an annual tourism boost for our city.

“Most players will attend for two to three days, stay in our hotels, eat in our cafes, shop in our stores and visit our local landmarks.

“Our motto is ‘Come for the Tennis; Stay for the Town’ and we’ll be promoting Goulburn to the participants.”

Ridley says the committee’s main objective is for Goulburn to be renowned for hosting one of the strongest and most enjoyable seniors tennis events on the NSW calendar, adding “that can only happen if our community works together to make the event successful (and) will be heavily based on financial sponsorship from local businesses and product support for our major raffle draw.”
