Great Southern region benefits from allocations from Western Australia’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund

Great Southern region benefits from allocations from Western Australia’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund
February 19, 2022

The expansion of the Railways Football and Sporting Club in Albany and the redevelopment of the Mt Barker Memorial Swimming Pool have been given a $1 million injection from the Western Australian Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

Railways FSC secured $300,000 needed to begin the first $1.1 million stage of the expansion of its clubhouse at Albany's Centennial Park.

With more than $315,000 cash and about $16,000 in-kind support secured from the City of Albany, plus about $370,000 raised by members, the 76-year-old club can now start works.

Stage one will include improving disability access, a building expansion, a new roof and change room refurbishment including the addition of female change rooms.

Welcoming the funds, Railways FSC President Andrew Want told the Albany Advertiser "we need to get into the next century and be a part of it.

“We are really excited about what female sport has brought to the club and female cricket is the next step and to just have the facilities to be able to look after that part of our club is wonderful.”

The Shire of Plantagenet received $700,000 towards the redevelopment of the Mount Barker Memorial Swimming Pool that will include the addition of a new children’s pool.

$10.34 million has been allocated in the latest CSRFF allocations to eight projects in metropolitan Perth and 13 projects in regional Western Australia.

Administered by the Western Australian Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the grants for projects over $300,000 are made available once a year to support the development of high quality infrastructure and environments for sport and recreation around Western Australia.

Other projects to receive funds include:

  • $900,000: Looma Community Inc to upgrade their oval, lighting and changerooms.
  • $738,767: Shire of Kellerberrin to redevelop the Kellerberrin Memorial Pool.
  • $700,000: City of Armadale to redevelop Gwynne Park Pavilion including changerooms.
  • $550,000: Manjimup Tennis Club to construct a new tennis complex including six hard courts.
  • $250,000: City of Melville to upgrade changerooms at Marmion Reserve.
  • $134,247: Swan Valley Sporting Club to redevelop their changerooms.
