Green Flag Award launched in Australia and New Zealand

The Parks Forum has announced that it is to deliver the Green Flag Award scheme, the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales since 1996, in Australia and New Zealand.

Recognising well-managed, high quality sites, the Award will provide a key benchmark against which parks and green spaces can be measured in Australia and New Zealand.

It is also a way of encouraging others to achieve high environmental standards, and offers great opportunities for professional development and networking through the peer judging program.

Endorsed by Parks and Leisure Australia and the New Zealand Recreation Association, and supported by the Department of Conservation, New Zealand as an industry partner, the Green Flag Award Scheme is now open to all park management agencies in Australia and New Zealand.

Parks Forum encourages all its member and non-member agencies to participate by nominating one or more of their parks for a Green Flag Award assessment.

The first round of assessments for 2012-13 will take place this spring (October through to November) and the agencies who have achieved Green Flag status will be announced early in 2013.
