read moreDubbed 'The Land of the Giants', the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants' new $11.5 million purpose built training and administration facility has been opened.
The 'Learning Life Centre' features an indoor training field, gymnasium and running track and is located in the heart of Sydney Olympic Park surrounded by other world-class training and sporting facilities including Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic and Athletic Centres, ANZ Stadium and Spotless Stadium.
Officially opening the Giants' new home, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Gabrielle Upton explained "the Giants are no longer the travelling nomads of the AFL. By bringing the players, staff and training facilities under one roof they have firmly planted their roots in the local community and in Western Sydney.
"We all know tough competition brings out the best performances on the field, and this new home for the Giants will help them compete against not only the best in the AFL, but also in the Western Sydney sports market.
"Competition between the codes is good news for sport in Western Sydney because every code is working their hardest to get Generation iPad off the couch and onto the sporting field.
"Ultimately, regardless of the shape of the ball or field, I want to see as many people, especially children, participating in sport across Western Sydney and New South Wales and the NSW Government is committed to helping all codes focused on doing just that.
"The NSW Government was pleased to be able to support the upgrade of Spotless Stadium (the former Skoda Stadium), the development of Tom Willis Oval and now - the Learning Life Centre."
