Gymnastics Australia launches Athlete Leadership Program

Gymnastics Australia, with their quest for success at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, is launching the ‘Movement Starts with the Gymnast’ Athlete Leadership Program with the support of Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA).

The program, delivered through the CGA Green2Gold2Great program, provides a unique opportunity for athletes to be a driving force in the campaign for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

In a statement, Gymnastics Australia notes “we believe in the power of athlete voices, and we want to work together with our athletes to shape our journey.

“By equipping athletes with the skills and tools required to be effective leaders, not just in sports but in life beyond, we aim to create a stronger, more united team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.”

Following the recent expression of interest process for this program, Gymnastics Australia have confirmed the following athletes to have been selected:

Clay Mason-Stephens (SA) – Gym Jets / National Training Centre Canberra
Georgia Godwin (NSW) – All the Way Up / National Training Centre Canberra
James Hardy (QLD) – Brisbane Grammar School
Jesse Moore (SA) – Gym Jets / National Training Centre Canberra
Kate McDonald (VIC) – Cheltenham Youth Club / Victorian Institute of Sport
Romi Brown (VIC) – Waverley Gymnastics Club / Victorian Institute of Sport

Selected athletes will embark on a transformative experience which will set them on the path to leadership and success, both on and off the gym floor.

Recognising the importance of athlete perspectives and leadership within the Gymnastics Australia team, athletes will not only explore the development of their leadership capabilities but assist in the design and development of the Campaign Plan through to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

These workshops will be facilitated by three-time Olympic Gold Medallist rower Drew Ginn.

Ginn is a distinguished professional with over two decades of experience in facilitation, coaching, and enhancing organisational effectiveness. He has been an Associate at Melbourne Business School since February 2005 and has held senior roles with both Rowing Australia and Cricket Australia. He is currently General Manager of Marshall White Real Estate – Bayside in Melbourne.

Ginn has translated the discipline and teamwork from his athletic career into his professional roles, working with leaders and organisations across different sectors to deliver solutions that enhance performance and drive results. Ginn's profile is one of a high achiever in sports who has seamlessly transitioned into a leader, inspiring excellence in the business and sports sectors.

The workshops will be held prior to the next two national camps which will also progress the campaign development of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
