Hobsons Bay in Melbourne’s southwest is offering its older residents a new way to regain fitness, and stay healthy and socially connected via a seniors’ exercise park in Spotswood.

The park at Donald McLean Reserve includes a range of specific equipment built for older adults, which aims to help them improve strength, balance, flexibility and mobility.

The project is a partnership between Council and the National Ageing Research Institute.

Local volunteers have been trained by the National Ageing Research Institute to show people how to safely use the equipment.

These community champions are running sessions every Wednesday and Friday until 15th December between 10am and 11am.

Each station at the park also has a QR code that links directly to a video that shows people how to use the equipment correctly. 

Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Matt Tyler shared “The seniors’ exercise park has already been so warmly embraced by the community and it’s great to see residents getting out and using the equipment.

“This park and the sessions run by our community champions are a great way to stay active. Just as importantly, you can meet new people and stay socially active, or get a group of friends together and have some fun.”
