Following an impressive year that saw ICC Sydney welcome over one million visitors to 500 events from conventions to exhibitions, gala dinners and entertainment concerts - and with a healthy pipeline of events on the horizon - the venue is continuing its commitment to champion local Orange producers.
ICC Sydney Chief Executive and ASM Global (APAC) Director - Convention Centres, Geoff Donaghy shared "ICC Sydney has purchased more than 130,000 bottles of premium Orange wine since opening in December 2016 and the team is committed to continued investment in the quality and diversity of wine from the region.
“Wines from the Orange region make up one quarter of our list of 100% NSW wine list, and the venue orders as many as 30,000 bottles of premium Orange wine per year. Our commitment to offer premium NSW wine, as well as fresh produce from local farmers, enriches the dining experience of our clients and delegates.
“The trip was an excellent opportunity for the venue team to strengthen ties with its network that is producing award winning wines and exceptional food.
Swinging Bridge Wines Chief Executive, and Immediate Past President of the Orange Region Vignerons Association (ORVA), Tom Ward praised ICC Sydney for its continued dedication to the region and said it has reaffirmed itself as a cellar door to the world.
Ward noted “High volumes of business activity at ICC Sydney directly contributes to the economic performance of Sydney as well as regional areas, including Orange.
“The continued backing by ICC Sydney of regional NSW even through the tough times is an amazing tribute to the strength of the relationship. The continued support of ICC Sydney has allowed regions like Orange to showcase the best local product to visitors from around Australia and the world.”
While in Orange, members from the venue team met with existing partners as well as prospective local vignerons to sample new products alongside sponsoring the ‘Best Exhibitor’ category of the 2023 Orange Wine Show Awards, which recognises the achievements of the region’s winemakers.
ICC Sydney Sommelier and Food and Beverage Manager, William Wilson, whose recent accolades include the 2023 NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards for ICC Sydney’s outstanding selection of premium local wines, remains enamoured with wine, drinks and produce from the region.
“The entire Central West and Riverina regions have earned a sound reputation for making superb wine and this visit was a fantastic opportunity to support the wine producers of Orange. As Orange is constantly evolving, we reconnected with our partners as well as celebrating the winners of this year’s Orange Wine Show. Similar to our continued support and sponsorship of the NSW Wine Awards, the Orange Wine Show is a great opportunity to discover the latest and best vintages from across the region.
“With record breaking numbers attending events and end of year celebrations still to take place at ICC Sydney this year, more event attendees can enjoy Orange region’s cool climate styles, including the recent outstanding trend of quality sparkling wines,” Wilson said.
ICC Sydney has sponsored the Best Exhibitor of Show accolade at the Orange Wine Awards for the sixth time – a category that was won by Swinging Bridge Wines – one of the venue’s many local wine suppliers.
