Ipswich City Council suspends senior officer charged with misconduct

Ipswich City Council suspends senior officer charged with misconduct
September 13, 2017

A senior Ipswich City Council officer has been charged by Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) with misconduct for allegedly causing financial detriment to an engineering firm.

Craig Kelvin Maudsley, the Council’s Chief Operating Officer in its Works, Parks and Recreation Department, has been charged by the CCC with allegedly trying to dishonestly gain a benefit for Wayne Francis Innes and causing financial detriment to Colmine Consulting.

The 54-year-old, from the Ipswich suburb of Yamanto, was charged yesterday by the CCC and is due to appear in court on 27th September.

Newly-elected Ipswich Mayor Andrew Antoniolli said Maudsley would be suspended from immediate duties on full remuneration.

Mayor Antoniolli explained “as Mayor, I can assure the ratepayers of Ipswich that I have zero tolerance when it comes to any illegal activity.

"This is a new era of Council, run on the principles of transparency and the highest standards of integrity.”

Maudsley was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2007, with the job including overseeing and managing council's whole asset portfolio from roads through to parks.

He has also been serving on the board of the council-owned company, Ipswich Motorsport Park Pty Ltd.

His LinkedIn profile said he had more than 29 years' experience in local government particularly in the areas of planning and maintenance for open space, natural resources, roads, drainage, horticulture, and arboriculture.

Ipswich City Council Chief Executive Jim Lindsay emailed all staff after the arrest, saying Maudsley was being offered support during the "traumatic time", adding that "anyone deserves the presumption of innocence".

Maudsley was responsible for the submission for the Joseph Brady Park submission in the Parks and Leisure Australia (Queensland) Awards in 2013. It won the Award for Parks which was then featured at the PLA 2013 National Conference.

Mayor Antoniolli was elected last month to take over from longstanding former Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, running on a platform of transparency and integrity.
