Leading play and outdoor fitness equipment supplier KOMPAN was last week awarded Australia’s highest design honour for their Cross Systems outdoor fitness range at the 2017 Good Design Australia Awards.

The Cross Systems product range took out a Best in Category award in the Sports and Lifestyle product design category, chosen from 414 award submissions.

Good Design Australia’s independent judging panel, which consists of more than 35 Australian and international design experts, stated KOMPAN’s entry was “design excellence at its very best.”

The judging panel added “KOMPAN sets the standard for good design in this category and the KOMPAN Cross System takes this to a whole new level.

“Every aspect of this product has been exceptionally well designed. The end result is another game changer from this design-driven company. Can we have one of these installed in every park in every town across Australia please?” they continued.

When designing the Cross Systems range, the team at KOMPAN stayed true to their company mission; to inspire people to engage in a healthy and happy lifestyle by providing freely accessible places to train alone or in groups. In addition to this ethos, the Cross Systems product allows users the added benefit of being easily utilised by outdoor trainers who require a universal area to teach their workout classes.

The supporting app also adds a layer of interactivity to the user experience.

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s most prestigious Awards for design and innovation, with a history dating back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in product design, architectural, digital and communication design, and reward emerging areas of design including business model innovation, social innovation and design entrepreneurship.

Good Design Australia Chief Executive Dr Brandon Gien, said that the awards had attracted innovative entries from all corners of the world, with an incredibly high standard of submissions this year.

Dr Gien stated “trying to pick the winning projects proved to be too great a challenge for the judging panel.

“The entries demonstrate excellence in design, innovation and creativity in different forms, and are a testament to the exceptional design expertise of products, services, designs and concepts that are available in the Australian market.”

The winners of Australia’s peak industry design awards – the highest honour for design innovations – were announced on the 8th June during the Good Design Awards Ceremony at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks, Sydney.
