The historic Anita’s Theatre in the Illawarra community of Thirroul has recently undergone a number of upgrades, with a new state-of-the art sound system, improved stage lighting and crowd safety barrier installed.

Having purchased the venue in July 2022, joining a portfolio of properties including Melbourne’s Palais Theatre and Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, the major improvement undertaken by owners Live Nation is the introduction of a new space in the venue, called The Kings Room.

Occupying the main foyer space of the building, The Kings Room will have a capacity of 120 and also equipped with new sound and lighting systems s able to host cabaret, comedy and other smaller shows. It is also available for private hire.

The venue’s backstage area is also in the process of being upgraded, with the installation of air-conditioning and a kitchenette.

Anita’s Theatre has a seating capacity of 820 and general admission capacity of 1,200.

The venue originally opened its doors in 1925 as the King’s Theatre before operating as a movie cinema and a roller-skating rink.

It was reopened in 2007 as Anita’s Theatre, becoming a space for music and live entertainment.
