Manuka Oval top soil recycled at Canberra’s National Arboretum

Manuka Oval top soil recycled at Canberra’s National Arboretum
July 22, 2013

Redevelopment works at Canberra's Manuka Oval has led to 3,000 metres3 of top soil being transported to the National Arboretum Canberra where it is being used for a new events area.

Explaining the initiative, National Arboretum Canberra General Manager Jason Brown states "the redevelopment works at Manuka Oval have freed up approximately 3,000 cubic metres of excess top soil which will be transported to the Arboretum to assist in the development of new turf areas on the Event Terrace.

"The soil from Manuka Oval is of good quality and is highly suitable for the Event Terrace (so) the Arboretum is very pleased to be able to recycle it and use the cost savings for other projects.

"It will also avoid wastage so it is a real win-win for both organisations.

The National Arboretum is remaining open while the work is underway, with, according to Brown "a traffic management plan ... in place on site."

The soil will initially be stockpiled on the Event Terrace before being spread in preparation for lawn areas in the coming weeks.
