Victoria University, in close cooperation with the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands) and the Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom), is organising the World Congress on Elite Sport Policy (WCESP) 2015, which will be held on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th November 2015.

WCESP is a biannual global event for sporting professionals which focuses on elite sport success under the auspices of SPLISS (Sports Policy factors Leading to International Sporting Success) -  an international network of research cooperation that coordinates, develops and shares expertise in innovative high performance sport policy research in cooperation with policy makers, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), international (sport) organisations, and researchers worldwide.

With the theme ‘And the Winner is ...’, the conference aims to bring together different perspectives on elite sport success, covering topics including:

• Who or what are the winners when it comes to participating in, or owning and hosting elite sport events.
• Beyond building elite sport development systems that may deliver medals, what are the outcomes that elite sport systems are delivering to various stakeholders?
• In a global environment where national governments and leaders see that elite sporting success can be produced by investing strategically in elite sport, who are the winners?

Speakers will include Federal Minister for Health and Minister for Sport Sussan Ley (pictured below), who will deliver the Opening Keynote Address discuss the role and responsibilities of the Australian Government in the formulation and implementation of elite sport policy.

Other keynote speakers will be made by senior representatives of the Australian Olympic Committee, Australian Sports Commission, Swimming Australia and Australian Grand Prix Corporation; along with international speakers from University of Brussels and Sheffield Hallam University.

CESP is a biannual global event for sporting professionals which focuses on elite sport success.

The previous SPLISS Conference in 2013 in Antwerp, Belgium was attended by over 300 delegates from over 45 countries.

A Victorian University (VU) spokesperson explained that “Victorian University’s role as the first international host of WCESP outside of the SPLISS consortium further cements VU’s reputation as Australia’s leading sport university.

“It highlights our leadership in sport policy research and education to profoundly relevant local, national and international audiences.”
