read moreNew waste management options will be in place at key tourist locations across Moira Shire this season to help improve visitor experience during the peak holiday season.
The new initiative from the Moira Shire Council will see bulk bins located in popular camping areas and collected twice weekly during times of high seasonal visitation, including Christmas and New Year, Easter, school holidays and other public holidays.
They are designed to provide improved waste disposal options for visitors, which will reduce the amount of rubbish placed in Council's public place bins that are often left overflowing.
The Council also hopes that it will discourage people from dumping rubbish in camping areas or nearby parks and roadsides.
Advising that the bins would improve amenities for visitors and also protect the pristine natural environment that Moira Shire is renowned for, Moira Shire Council Chief Executive, Matthew Morgan stated "this new service demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of our community, especially during busy tourist seasons.
"We recognise the importance of preserving our natural assets while accommodating the needs of our growing tourism sector. This initiative strikes a balance between visitor convenience and environmental responsibility."
The service is part of Council's broader strategy to enhance waste management and sustainability practices across the shire.
The bulk bin collection service will be managed by a contracted service provider, ensuring efficient and timely waste removal throughout peak periods.
