Setting out to become the nation’s high-technology automotive hub to accelerate jobs, skills training, expertise and business opportunities in the automotive sector, the facility at the Eastern Creek venue in Sydney’s west is a key part of the NSW government’s $32 million investment in Sydney Motorsport Park.
Advising that AMIP is modelled on the UK’s Silverstone precinct, which brings together the best minds in industry, education, technology and motorsport, Adam Leto, Chief Executive of regional think tank, the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue, explained “the opening of this unique precinct lays the groundwork for a world-class sustainable business hub at Sydney Motorsport Park, the home of motor racing in NSW.
“This is Sydney’s answer to Silverstone … and is already attracting industry trailblazers in manufacturing, research, development and education.
“Western Sydney is an emerging education powerhouse that is ready to drive new technologies, industry innovation and skills training, now, and for future generations.
“The Dialogue congratulates the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC) for bringing this concept to life and welcomes the invaluable support and funding from the NSW Government.”
The $10 million trackside precinct brings together engineers, developers, universities and research institutions to collaborate with entrepreneurs, business start-ups and incubators.
Speaking at the official opening, NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism, John Graham stated “keeping the best in the business here in Western Sydney, we will help create the smart jobs and technology of the future, which will fuel our economy and further support an already hugely popular sport that’s attracting visitors day and night to this first-class circuit.
“These events help to identify, develop and foster the next generation of motorsport talent, creating a direct pathway for young Australian motor racing drivers.
“For generations, motorsports have driven innovations that have benefited millions of ordinary drivers. This precinct will supercharge this process.”
NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper added “the NSW Government recognises and understands the passion for motorsport in western Sydney.
“We are an enthusiastic supporter of the Australian Motorsport Innovation Precinct at Sydney Motorsport Park which will create a cluster of world-leading businesses to drive innovation and create employment opportunities in western Sydney.
“This project comes on top of our investment in a major track extension and the installation of permanent circuit lighting at the circuit as well as upgrades to Sydney International Dragway which includes a new world-class surface, grandstand and lighting.”
