read moreThe National Officiating Summit has announced the signing of its University Partner, the University of Canberra (UC).
As part of the multi-dimensional partnership, UC will extend their contribution to the academic aspect of the officiating industry. In cooperation with UC, the Summit will now deliver a dedicated research stream presenting content related to officiating studies.
The full day program will feature leading academic minds from Australia and around the world specialising in officiating research. Topics covered will include communication, impacts of abuse, decision making, technology, diversity, and high performance.
The research stream is expected to attract university students and fellow academics, as well as provide governing bodies an opportunity to learn about the latest research on sports officiating.
Event Director, Ash Synnott, declared the partnership is a key signing and representative of the interest the Summit is gathering.
Synnott noted “we knew this event would have a natural connection with officiating research. The interest we’ve received from university academics and research professionals has been considerable. UC has shown immense energy towards the Summit, and this has resulted in an entire stream being established to focus on this important part of the industry”.
Stirling Sharpe, sport management lecturer at the University of Canberra and hockey umpire, highlighted the synergies between the University and the NOS.
“Like UC, the NOS is set on a foundation of partnerships, community, development, and showcasing the power of sport. I am thrilled that the University of Canberra can be a part of this”.
Dr Joshua Adie, research fellow and cricket umpire, is excited to be part of the partnership and shared “NOS 2023 will be a fantastic opportunity to bring officiating academics and industry experts together, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the organising committee and UC colleagues to develop an exciting research showcase at the Summit, from academics around the country and abroad”.
The three day National Officiating Summit is for Australia's sports officiating industry.
Further announcements will be made in relation to additional aspects of the partnership and ticketing information.
