read moreNorthern Territory Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss has appointed the Clare Martin as the new Chair of MAGNT.
Based at Bullocky Point, MAGNT is the Northern Territory’s premier cultural institution with collections boasting important Aboriginal art and cultural objects, a natural science and a maritime museum, and exhibiting history and art from across the Territory and across the region, including near neighbours to the north.
Martin joins four new Directors to the MAGNT Board, who are all appointed for three-year terms. The Chair is appointed following a recommendation by the Board to the Minister, as required under s.17 of The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory Act 2014.
Announcing the appointment, Minister Moss advised “I am pleased to welcome the Hon Clare Martin to the role of Chair. As the first woman to become Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and as a previous Minister for the Arts, Clare has extensive experience in governance and public administration and is a valuable addition to the Board.
“the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory plays a critical role in showcasing and developing the Territory’s artistic and cultural capacity and is a premier tourist attraction in the NT.
“The new members bring a wealth of expertise in arts, culture, business, governance and public administration to the MAGNT Board.
Minister Moss welcomed the following new Directors to the Board:

• Franchesca Cubillo
• Philip Watkins.

• Dr Tricia Kavanagh
• Michael Sitzler
Minister Moss added “I would like to thank the outgoing members of the MAGNT Board, including former Chair Allan Myers, who deserve to be proud of the work they have done to support and enhance our much-loved MAGNT facilities across the Territory."
