New Chair announced for Kardinia Park Trust

New Chair announced for Kardinia Park Trust
June 30, 2017

Current board member Michael Malouf has been appointed Chair of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust.

Victorian Minister for Sport John Eren today (30th June) announced that Malouf will replace former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks in the role, who recently became Chair of the MCG Trust.

Bracks steered the ground into an exciting new era – establishing the Kardinia Park Trust, which oversaw the $90 million Stage 4 redevelopment of Simonds Stadium.

Minister Eren stated “thanks to the great work of Mr Bracks and Trust board members like Mr Malouf, the future of Kardinia Park is looking brighter than ever.

“As former Chief Executive of the City of Melbourne, City of Greater Geelong and Carlton Football Club, Mr Malouf brings an unrivalled passion for sport and expertise at the top level.

“Mr Malouf will oversee the team in charge of completing Kardinia Park’s transformation, from an ageing footy ground to the best sporting arena in regional Australia.”

The Victorian Government recently kick-started planning and design work for Stage 5 of the redevelopment, funded in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

With the final upgrade now on the horizon, fans can look forward to seeing more big-ticket blockbuster events and some of the world’s best athletes in their own backyard.

Minister Eren added “Our next upgrade will bring even more superstars and more business to Geelong, and I’m confident Mr Malouf will do a great job completing this world-class redevelopment.”

Malouf stated “it has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve on this Trust with Steve. His legacy will be apparent as we work hard to make Kardinia Park a great sporting, economic and community asset for the people of the Geelong region.

“In a few years’ time we intend to have the best regional sporting stadium in Australia as well as a buzzing and vibrant business and community precinct at Kardinia Park.”

It was also announced today that Simonds Stadium (Kardinia Park) will also stage the AFL Masters National Carnival from 2nd to 7th October this year.

AFL Masters is the premier event for mature footballers across the nation, featuring a men’s and women’s competition.

Up to 1,500 players aged 30 and over, as well as 300 coaches from all states and territories, will travel to Geelong for the week long carnival.
