New Chair named for Victoria’s State Sport Centres Trust

New Chair named for Victoria’s State Sport Centres Trust
November 22, 2021

Victoria's State Sport Centres Trust - which oversees the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, Melbourne Sport Centres Parkville (State Netball Hockey Centre) and Lakeside Stadium - has a new Chair.

Tracey Cooper, who has been a member of the Trust since 2017, was confirmed in the position at the end of last week by Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula.

Minister Pakula acknowledged the significant contribution of former Chair Christopher Jackson, who served for five years on the Trust and oversaw an important period of development for the organisation, going on to advise that Cooper has a wealth of corporate and administrative experience.

Minister Pakula commented “Tracey Cooper has been a valuable member of the Trust since her appointment to the board four years ago and  will provide extensive corporate and administrative expertise as Chair.”

She is currently chief executive of business content organisation Dokio with clients around the world, and Chair of both the Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism board and the Victorian Government’s Southern Metropolitan Partnership, which provides advice to government on priorities for the region.

Cooper is also a non-executive Director of the Box Hill Institute and the travel portal rome2rio.

Victoria's State Sport Centres Trust’s venues host more than two million visitors each year. In addition to managing three of Victoria’s best known and most-used sports centres, the Trust is also contributing its expertise to the State Basketball Centre’s $132 million redevelopment.

Through its facilities, the Trust delivers more than $164 million in economic benefit to Victoria each year, supporting 1,180 jobs and providing extensive community benefits.

Looking forward to her new role, Cooper stated "it’s been incredibly rewarding being part of the Trust - I’m relishing the challenge of helping lead the Trust at this exciting time as we re-open our facilities to the community.”
