read moreThe Port Hedland Seafarers have been successfully awarded the contract to manage the Port Hedland Visitors Centre, presenting new opportunities for the future of tourism in the region.
The Centre has previously been managed by FORM, providing a selection of tourism services over the years including mine site tours, town tours and retail trading.
The Port Hedland Seafarers have a rich history, part of the global The Mission to Seafarers organisation which supports the needs of those venturing the oceans through communications, education, mental health services and more.
Mayor Camilo Blanco welcomed the contract awarding, pointing to the significant opportunities to grow tourism in the Pilbara, noting "firstly, I’d like to thank FORM for building a strong reputation in the town over the last few years, in both supporting locals and welcoming visitors with a friendly face on Wedge Street.
“During their tenure, a consistent itinerary of tours were provided to accommodate the diverse tastes of tourists, particularly during peak season.
“With the Seafarers taking over, there are endless possibilities to build on FORM’s strong legacy, including reaching new audiences overseas to showcase our region to the world.
“We are in a unique position to diversify from the traditional mining and resources sector and develop into a recognised tourism destination in WA.
“I know tourism is a passion shared by many locals, so my priority is to ensure this partnership expands our tourism focus and showcases our unique and often underrated nature, adventure and industrial experiences."
