read moreThe Australian Womensport and Recreation Association (AWRA) is conducting a nationwide search for a new president to succeed one of its original founders and inaugural leader, Janice Crosswhite.
Crosswhite, who has been at the forefront of AWRA's efforts to bring about an increased profile for women's sport, is stepping aside after eight years at the helm.
The vacancy comes at a time when opportunities for women continue to increase, But AWRA highlight that "there is still much work to do to gain true equity for women's participation.
"AWRA is growing in response to this need, having recently appointed Australia's most successful basketball player, Lauren Jackson, as an ambassador, and Leanne Evans, a sports management leader and former elite athlete, as inaugural Executive Officer.
"AWRA is seeking a proven and energetic leader who can build on the platform established by Ms Crosswhite. The ideal candidate will be committed to social inclusion, have strong leadership skills and be experienced in developing solutions to enhance the participation of women and girls in sport, physical activity and active recreation."
The new President will be AWRA's key spokesperson to the public and work collaboratively with government and stakeholders to build a stronger healthier Australian culture through the participation of women and girls in sport, physical activity and active recreation.
The President will be elected at AWRA's Annual General Meeting in October for a two-year term. Expenses directly associated with the position are covered.
AWRA is Australia's peak not-for-profit advocacy body for women's sport, providing leadership and a voice for Australian women and girls in sport, physical activity and active recreation.
