read moreAhead of the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, Nike and Football Australia have today revealed the new kit for the Matildas national football team.
With Australia, along with New Zealand, ready to host the biggest tournament in women's football later this year, Nike's new home and away kit for the Australian women’s team features a marbled pattern that draws on the golden wattle to celebrates the country's outback and beaches.
The kits also take account of period anxiety among players, with the apparel integrating period underwear into the shorts, while the New Zealand women’s team will swap their traditional white shorts for teal blue.
They are the most comprehensive football team collections created for women by Nike, with the fit and material catered to the specific movements of female sports-players.
The Australian design, backed by women’s research and athlete feedback, integrate “leak protection” into the shorts with a combination of a laminate gusset, liner, and short construction
As part of Nike’s wider Move to Zero journey, sustainability continues to be at the core of the new shirts, with their being made with 100% recycled polyester constructed from recycled bottles.
Drawing on data from more than 300 football athletes, the kit’s high-stretch, anti-cling material allows for quick and agile movements with a streamlined fit.
Applying the same principles used in Nike Flyknit footwear, precision knitting is reinforced where needed while heavily vented in areas prone to heat.
The range is available online and from Rebel Sport, Ultra Football and Nike stores.
