read moreJust weeks after its opening, early morning swimming classes at the new Scarborough Beach Pool have been halted due to a noise complaint by a nearby resident.
WAToday has report that a local resident is believed to have complained to the City of Stirling about the noise coming from the facility during its 5.30am swim classes. As a result, the early classes have been halted.
A City of Stirling spokesperson acknowledged the complaint, advising that it was imperative to fix the problem so the swim school and swimmers could use the facility without issue.
The spokesperson advised "following a complaint from a local resident, the City is working hard to ensure that the facility minimises the impact to nearby residents whilst delivering a range of programs to new members.
"Centre staff are working alongside our Environmental Health team to proactively manage the situation and minimise the disruption these classes cause."
A caller to 6PR's Breakfast program said as she walked past the pool about 8am one morning, observing swim classes being held, she spotted a woman in her late 60s on the top floor of the apartments across the road yelling out through a megaphone.
The caller advised that the woman was shouting "'please turn the music down'", adding "she kept repeating it and we were laughing our heads off."
Earlier this year, the city confirmed it had strict regulations regarding the Scarborough Beach Pool's noise levels.
The maximum noise level at the facility during daylight hours is currently 71dB, and the city warned there would be some noise from the facility given its purpose.
The innovative beachside complex was opened on 22nd January.
