NSW Government commits 50% funding for Albury Entertainment Centre upgrade

NSW Government commits 50% funding for Albury Entertainment Centre upgrade
April 22, 2022

Albury City Council has received a $15 million funding commitment from the NSW Government towards its planned $30 million upgrade of the Albury Entertainment Centre.

The funds, being committed as part of the Albury Wodonga Regional Deal are in addition to $10 million already pledged by the Federal Government and $5 million in funds from the Council.

Located in Albury’s Cultural Precinct, the upgrade aims to take advantage of Albury’s strategic location between Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra and will include an expansion of the venue’s convention facilities, new pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and multi-purpose events spaces.

Announcing the funding, NSW Deputy Premier Paul Toole advised earlier this month “I see this as more than a $15 million investment made by the state government.

"This is about creating jobs, this is about creating opportunities, and it's also about revitalising the CBD here in the Albury area."

Albury Mayor Kylie King welcomed the investment, adding “it … sits in beautifully with some terrific opportunities … around our cultural precinct master plan.

"We've got the beautiful Retro Cafe, the LibraryMuseum, this expansion and redevelopment certainly fits into this grander plan that we have in this beautiful heart.

"We are very lucky to have it, this QEII Square, and this is a terrific complement to that."

The funding announcement was coupled with the NSW government announcing a $25 million Reconnecting Regional NSW - Community Events Program that will help regional councils stage shows, festivals, picnics and recovery events to help reinvigorate communities.
