read moreIn the wake of scandals forcing two of her ministers to resign, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has named Natalie Ward MLC as the state’s new Minister for Sport, Multiculturalism, Seniors and Veterans Affairs.
Ward, a Member in the NSW Legislative Council (Upper House), replaces Drummoyne MP John Sidoti was forced out of the ministry permanently amid a corruption hearing.
Sidoti had been sidelined from Premier Berejiklian’s frontbench for more than 18 months, longer than he held his ministerial post.
Ward is a commercial litigation lawyer of 20 years practice and is a Director of the Australian Rugby Foundation.
Her husband David Begg is a commercial lawyer and President of Sydney Rugby Union.
Welcoming the appointment, Sport NSW issued a statement, advising "Sport NSW looks forward to a long and positive relationship with the Minister, working together as we continue to promote, strengthen and advocate for the sector so that all people and communities in NSW can enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation."
Geoff Lee, who has been acting Sports Minister, retains his role as NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education.
The other ministerial change has seen member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens, named Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services.
That vacancy was created when Kiama MP Gareth Ward stood down from the frontbench this month after he faced accusations of sexual violence. He denies the accusations.
