A new cycle race for amateurs, staged under the brand of Le Tour de France, will take place from 1st to 3rd December next year and is expected to attract thousands of domestic and international visitors to the NSW Snowy region.

The inaugural L’Etape Australia by Le Tour de France cycling race will run under professional race conditions with closed roads on a course developed and approved by the Race Director of Le Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme.

Up to 7,000 amateur cyclists are expected to participate along a challenging route with  Sprint and a King of the Mountain section and with riders competing for the famous Yellow, Green, Polka Dot and White Jerseys.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the event has been secured for the Snowy Mountains by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

Minister Ayres explained “tourism is the lifeblood of the Snowy Mountains region, and L’Etape Australia by Le Tour de France will attract thousands of visitors to the area in a traditionally quiet period.

“The event will also help promote the region to cyclists and adventure travellers from around the world ... breathtaking hiking tracks, cycling routes and wilderness (to) suit all ages and tastes.”
