read moreThe Northern Territory Government is looking to maximise the potential of key sporting facilities with the development of Master Plans for two of the Territory’s top sports precincts - Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex and the Mickett Creek Shooting Complex.
Separate tenders will be released this week with external experts being asked to identify opportunities for future development and operational requirements at each of the peak sporting sites.
Hidden Valley is home to a 2.87 kilometre race track that hosts a round of the Australian Supercars Championship Series. It also has facilities for drag racing, speedway, go-karting, quad bike racing and a mud racing track.
Mickett Creek Shooting Complex is used by Darwin Rifle Club, Darwin Pistol Club, Sporting Shooters Association of Australia, and NT Field and Game who hold competitions across a range of disciplines. The plan will consider the viability of relocating the Marrara-based clay shooting facilities to Mickett Creek to consolidate the complex as the centre for shooting in Darwin.
The NT Government has recently invested heavily in major upgrades to sports facilities like Arafura Stadium, Leanyer Recreation Park, for lighting at Ntaria Oval, and $1.8 million for remote sports infrastructure at Robinson River, Milikapiti, Papunya, Yuendumu and Pmara Jutunta.
Stakeholder engagement will be a key component in the development of the new Master Plans, which will include reviews of current and projected usage, and an audit of the current condition of facilities.
The successful proponents will begin work on the Master Plans early in 2023.
