Ocean Park Hong Kong announces AJ Hackett partnership to deliver new adventure zone
October 25, 2024

Aiming to diversify its product opening, Ocean Park Hong Kong has unveiled plans for a new adventure activity precinct that will feature zip lines, bungee jumping, a ropes course and an alpine coaster.

As part of the theme park’s HK$6.8 billion (US$876 million) redevelopment plan, Ocean Park Corporation (OPC) is partnering with Hong Kong-Macau conglomerate Shun Tak Holdings Limited and the AJ Hackett International group to deliver the adventure zone.

Designed to integrate with the Ocean Park‘s topography, the new 12 hectare precinct will be situated on a developed hillside close to the attraction’s Summit area.

Making the most of a natural downhill slope, the separately ticketed area will include two giant zip lines spanning around 1,000 metres each along with a ropes park and an alpine coaster, as well as bungee jumping and giant swing facilities. It will also include outdoor playgrounds, water play areas and climbing walls, and edutainment elements like puzzles and tactile objects.

The site was previously home to the now retired Raging River and Mine Train rides.

With Ocean Park repositioning itself as a resort destination, OPC Chairman, Paulo Pong advised “this marks a significant milestone for Ocean Park Corporation and Hong Kong’s tourism industry,” said Paulo Pong, chairman of Ocean Park Corporation.

“We are confident that the adventure zone will appeal to adventure enthusiasts and families alike, thereby broadening our visitor base and further enhancing the overall experience and market competitiveness of Ocean Park as a resort destination.”

Rogier Verhoeven, President of the Group Hospitality Division of Shun Tak Holdings Limited, noted “in line with the key focus areas in the national planning for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the development of the Adventure Zone at Ocean Park will further validate the Group's ongoing ‘Tourism+’ strategy.

“We firmly believe that this new tourism landmark will create unforgettable memories for visitors to Hong Kong and continuously inject new quality productive forces into the city's cultural tourism industry.”

AJ Hackett International Chief Executive, Danny Hughes added “the natural landscape of Ocean Park will create a wonderful playground for our guests, and we are honoured to be custodians with a sustainable development that highlights conservation and education.

“The Adventure Zone is an exciting opportunity to expand the iconic experiences of Ocean Park, and to promote Hong Kong to our worldwide following with a world-class sky-high adventure tourist attraction.”

Under its transformation plan, Ocean Park is also planning to add new zones for retail, dining and entertainment, and wellness.

The adventure zone is planned to open in 2028,
