One Playground is hosting a 2.5 hour workshop alongside Psychotherapist Shannon Hsu in their Marrickville wellness centre in support of Detour House - a refuge focused on reducing homelessness, transforming lives and creating lasting impact. With a mission to 'Inspire Change', One Playground is aiming to create awareness of the work of Detour House and raise much needed funds to support the issues that so many women and girls face day-to-day.
Beginning at 5.30 pm, participants will dive into a workshop that unlocks the secrets of the nervous system. They will discover how the nervous system impacts the body and take away valuable tools to reduce reactivity and regulate their nervous system, empowering them to manage stress effectively.
During the event, special guest Cindi Petersen, Chief Executive of Detour House, and a former client of the refuge, will offer insights into the services and assistance provided by Detour House. The concluding hour will feature a NeuroSomatic Yoga Class, which seamlessly blends somatic therapy, mindful movement, breath work, music and vinyasa yoga.
Hsu explains that the workshop will "facilitate the release of stored emotions and stress in a healthy manner, leading to a clearer mind, and nurturing mind-body connection while guiding the nervous system towards a state of calmness and rest".
Claudia Howard, Head Of Wellness at One Playground shared "We are looking to raise $5000 alongside Shannon and Detour House for this event. Shannon is one of our trainers, and came to us looking to host the workshop to raise money and awareness for Detour House and we couldn't be more thrilled to be involved. We believe in the power of community and supporting those in need and we are looking forward to playing a part in creating change for the better!"
One Playground and its vibrant member base have long been supporters of causes that matter and rallied behind impactful initiatives. In 2023 during Mental Health Month, One Playground orchestrated 'Lift Your Mood', a month-long event to raise funds for Black Dog Institute. The event aimed to be Australia's largest fancy dress workout with over 500 members participating. During Lift Your Mood, One Playground's annual spinathon raised over $6,000. Additionally, in previous years, eight trainers from One Playground got together to perform 10,000 burpees in support of the Blackdog Institute. Despite feeling the impact for weeks afterward, they raised over $10,000 for the cause!
Tickets for the event cost $85pp, with all proceeds going directly to Detour House. If you can't make it, there is also an option to take part in the event online for $49pp. There is also a raffle prize draw on the day to aid with fundraising for a great cause.
Looking ahead to 2024, this event marks just one of the charitable initiatives that One Playground has in store. With Mental Health Month coming up in October, One Playground look forward to their annual Spinathon and much more!
