Parkinson Aquatic Centre opens fully-equipped gym for Brisbane Southside residents
March 4, 2019

The Parkinson Aquatic Centre on Brisbane’s Southside has been expanded with the opening of a new-age, purpose-built and fully-equipped gym, the Parkinson Health Club.

Introducing the new fitness space, Jay Clarke, Director of facility manager City Venue Management, advised “the Parkinson Health Club is such an exciting space. It’s a place where experienced and novice gym-goers alike, can equally revive, reinvigorate, and reconnect with their health, fitness and leisure-lifestyle goals.”

Initially earmarked for a fit-out in October 2022, the gym’s completion is three years ahead of schedule, showcasing a successful working relationship between operators, City Venue Management, and Brisbane City Council.

The development also includes a new $175,000 entry area, funded by the Council.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Council was pleased to have invested in the further development of the facility to allow for this next phase, advising “the new facility creates more lifestyle and leisure opportunities for Brisbane and gives residents greater ability to be active and healthy all year round.

“Council’s contribution to the upgrade of the club’s entrance and kiosk is sure to continue to play a part in the community for years to come.”

Local Councillor Angela Owen, has championed the Aquatic Centre from the beginning, advising “the addition of the fully equipped gym will enhance opportunities for local residents to engage in an active and healthy lifestyle in this world class accessible and inclusive Brisbane City Council facility.”

“The Parkinson Aquatic Centre is second to none and is leading the way in health and fitness. We already have international interest in the Aquatic Centre and the new Health Club will support greater opportunities in the future for athletes and swimmers.”

Expressing City Venue Management’s shared sentiments on the facility, Clarke added “the Parkinson precinct is certainly a modern, full-service facility, not just offering the new gym, but casual swimming, birthday parties and aquatic events, as well as learn to swim through Rackley Swimming in the indoor heated pool, as well as squad opportunities through our Rackley Swim Team and training in our outdoor 50 metre pool with world leading coaches.”

Located on the upper level of the Centre, the health and fitness facility spans 400 metre² space, with an additional 150 metre² of group fitness space.

Equipped by Synergy Fitness, members can now enjoy weights programs, group fitness options, cross fit classes, yoga, Pilates sessions, and entrance to the pools, topped with the exclusive use of a member’s deck including food and beverage options.

Catering for all ages and abilities, the facility will double its staff to accommodate the increase in member needs, and extend to on-site personal health related services, including personal trainers, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists

Accessible via lift, the club will also provide dedicated health club amenities, hair driers and irons, as well as a creche supervised by a qualified carer, for children from two months to 12 years of age.

The Parkinson Health Club opened to the public on 1st March.
