read moreThe Victorian Government is backing its Parks Victoria agency in enabling the employment of 53 new rangers.
The Victorian Government is providing $20.4 million over four years, and $1.5 million in ongoing funding for the creation of 53 new ranger positions - 15 of which are based in the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland - as well as an additional 15 corporate staff within Parks Victoria.
Almost one-in-five roles are to be filled by Aboriginal people or designated as roles for Aboriginal people, created as part of the Unlocking the benefits of parks for all Victorians initiative.
Explaining how the move aims to improve conservation, upgrade infrastructure and boost tourism and job opportunities, Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio stated “these new rangers will improve service delivery, conservation efforts and visitor experiences throughout Victoria’s parks.”
Parks Victoria Chief Executive Matthew Jackson added “we thank the Victorian Government for their commitment to improving Parks Victoria and allowing us to continue to deliver a great experience to everyone who visits our parks.
“Having sufficient rangers on the ground is vital to ensuring we are able to protect these beautiful natural assets.”
