Perth Theatre Trust tenders ticketing rights

Perth Theatre Trust tenders ticketing rights
June 13, 2012

The tender for the ticketing rights for the Perth Theatre Trust's venues has been advertised in the West Australian and Australian newspapers.

As provided in the Perth Theatre Trust (PTT) venue management agreement, AEG Ogden (Perth) will be responsible for the tender, with PTT having approval over all contractual arrangements, including the preferred supplier.

The long awaited tender follows the decision, announced in January, by the Western Australian Government would "decommission" its wholly-owned ticketing agency BOCS Ticketing.

At that time Western Australian Culture and the Arts Minister John Day announced that the public tender would be advertised in April 2012 after stakeholder consultation and follow Department of Finance procurement procedures.

BOCS Ticketing and Marketing Services was established 30 years ago and, operated by PTT, employs the equivalent of 39 people in both part-time and full time roles in a Perth-based call centre, with six outlets at PTT venues and five booking agencies throughout WA.

BOCS has about 150 clients but many are clubs and other community-based groups which account for a small proportion of its total ticket sales.

One of the world's last subsidised ticketing agencies, BOCS' operations have been subsidised by the WA Government to the tune of about $350,000 a year, revenues having dropped sharply in 2008 when it lost the ticketing contract for the Burswood and Regal theatres.

In a statement, PTT General Manager Alan Ferris explained "Perth Theatre Trust will ensure the interests of current BOCS staff, the Perth Theatre Trust and the Western Australian arts community are considered in any agreement."
