read morePerth’s Bayswater Waves has been named the inaugural Platinum Waterwise Aquatic Centre of the Year at the Western Australian Water Corporation's 2022 Waterwise Recognition Awards.
Having a range of efficiency measures over the past 12 months as part of the centre’s staged refurbishment, the accolade recognises Bayswater Waves as a leader in efficient, sustainable water use.
These include upgrading existing basin taps to push button taps, installing new shower heads and water flow reducers, and replacing rinse showers with dry change facilities.
Another key initiative was adding ultrasonic depth sensors in all balance tanks to allow the centre to better monitor its water usage.
Bayswater Waves has been endorsed as a Waterwise Aquatic Centre since 2018, and achieved the Gold title last year.
HBF Arena's commitment to reducing water use was also recognised at the Water Corporation's Waterwise Business Program, with a Gold Waterwise award.
One of nine businesses to receive Gold Waterwise recognition for implementing key water management actions resulting in significant improvements in water use, HBF Arena’s initiatives included a reduction in water use per patron, daily record of balance tanks meters for early identification of pool leaks, use of data loggers to monitor overnight for leaks and action taken to repair leaks identified.
Since 2007, Water Corporation programs have helped save an estimated 124 billion litres of drinking water - equivalent to 124 Optus Stadiums full of water.
