read morePlaySport, Australia’s largest online sporting platform has been announced as the Platinum Sponsor for the 2019 National Sports Convention, being held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 23rd to 25th July 2019.
Welcoming PlaySport’s backing for Australia and New Zealand’s leading gathering of sport, government, education, health, commercial, leaders, policy makers and providers in the physical activity, recreation and community sports sectors; Martin Sheppard, founder and Content Facilitator for the National Sports Convention and the Managing Director of the Smart Connection Consultancy, stated “the National Sports Convention is excited to welcome PlaySport to be its 2019 Platinum Sponsor.
“PlaySport is aligned with the principles of the NSC, exploring how the sport, recreation, fitness, education and government sectors can provide the Australian and New Zealand community with a broad range of opportunities to be fit, to play, recreate and participate in community sport.
“The NSC brings together all the sector key providers and PlaySport offers the technological vehicle for them to register their activities, events, and participation opportunities through their next generation communication platforms so that the broader community can appreciate the thousands of options available to them. This could be a Game Changer that the industry has been waiting for.”
With 55,000 sporting organisers and over 350 different sports on its platform, PlaySport’s aim is to encourage everyday Australians to get active by allowing people to discover, organise, play and follow any sport or activity anywhere in Australia at any time.
PlaySport Chief Executive and Co-founder, Ben Sanders (pictured below) explains “we are pleased to partner with The National Sports Convention and share with the industry the many opportunities to help promote cross sector physical activity, recreation and community sport participation.
“While Australians are lucky to have so many opportunities to get active, we need to do more to help the broader community know the many diverse sport and physical activity options open to them and highlight the importance and impact this can have on their overall health and wellbeing.”
This sentiment is highlighted in the latest data from Sport Australia’s recent AusPlay survey.
The survey, while indicating a positive increase in the overall number of Australians participating in sport and physical activity, still fell short when meeting the recommended physical activity guidelines, indicating only 19% of children are meeting the recommended one hour of physical activity a day.
AusPlay also revealed Australia’s top 20 sports and physical activities with recreational activities like walking, fitness/gym, swimming, running and cycling topping the list, with football at number six as the most popular organised sport for Australian participants.
Ben Sanders will be participating and offering insight on two panels at the National Sports Convention, looking at the top five activators to bring together events and commercial providers with community sports clubs to facilitate sustainable community clubs and discussing the big future issues and opportunities facing sport and management.
