read moreThe Central Highlands Regional Council has advised that construction has commenced on the new 25-metre pool at it Springsure Aquatic Centre, marking the start of a two-year project to upgrade the popular swimming facility.
Announcing the start of work, Central Highlands Regional Councillor, Karen Newman stated “we’re really excited this long-anticipated project for the Springsure community has commenced.
“After 60 wonderful years, the current facility is at the end of its useful life. These upgrades will ensure the facility continues to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.
“Public swimming pools are fundamental to life in the Central Highlands. They don’t just offer relief from the heat, but a shared space where people of all ages come together to connect, learn swimming and water safety skills, improve their wellbeing and create lasting memories.”
As part of stage 1 of the project, a new 25-metre lap pool will be installed, the children’s wading pool will be removed and replaced with a splash pad play area and the pump and filtration systems will be updated. In stage 2, a new heated 17-metre program pool will be built, allowing for a longer swimming season.
The project will be completed by contractor Ozcrete Pools Pty Ltd and is expected to be finished in 2026.
The $12.5 million project has received $10 million from the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund, a voluntary partnership between the Queensland Government, participating mineral resources industry parties, the Queensland Resources Council and its members. The remaining $2.5 million is funded by Council.
