Regional tourism leaders ready to convene in Canberra

Regional tourism leaders ready to convene in Canberra
October 17, 2017

The annual Australian Regional Tourism Convention, being held from Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th of October at QT Canberra, is to feature an exciting line-up of more than 40 speakers including Senator Fiona Nash, Federal  Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Local Government and Territories, Minister for Regional Communities; Carlita Warren of NRMA; Bradley Spalding of Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery and Jonathan Kobus of Visit Canberra.

The Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN) has received more than 100 registrations for the four-day event, with delegates set to attend from all States and Territories.

Looking forward to the Conventon, ARTN Chair Simon McArthur explains “the calibre of presenters we’ve secured for the 2017 Convention is second to none. We’re delighted to have digital-disruptors, Uber and AirBnB, and many regional case studies being presented.”

The official proceedings will commence next Monday evening with a Welcome Reception at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre from 6pm. Delegates will experience the best of Canberra as they enjoy field-trips and dinners including the highlight of the networking program, a farewell dinner at the National Arboretum on Thursday night.

In addition to increasing regional dispersal and product development, the key themes to be tabled include agritourism, aboriginal tourism, accessible/inclusive tourism, visitor servicing, air access and cruise tourism.

McArthur adds “the Convention is a fantastic forum in which regional tourism practitioners can exchange ideas, discuss and debate some of the most important issues, challenges and opportunities facing regional tourism.”

The Board of the ARTN invite local government representatives, regional and state tourism organisations and all sectors of the Australian tourism industry to contribute to the future of regional tourism by participating.

Registrations close this Thursday (19th October).
