The koala and wombat enclosures have received significant upgrades while the dingos are now making themselves at home in their brand new and more spacious home.
Rockhampton Regional Council’s Chair of Parks and Recreation Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the Council was thrilled to have received half a million dollars to improve the conditions for the animals and to enhance the visitor experience.
Councillor Rutherford stated "we take great pride in our zoo exhibits and work hard to ensure that we maintain and meet the needs of our animals, while also being able to educate and accommodate our visitors who love coming here.
“This funding has allowed us to significantly improve the wombat viewing area, build a new shade structure over the koala enclosure and relocate the dingos to a different area of the zoo.
“The funding also means Council could construct all-accessible pathways, retaining walls, landscaping and a new exit from the zoo. New shade structures for the crocodile enclosure and viewing platform are also on their way in the New Year.”
Rockhampton Zoo is free and open daily from 8am to 4.30pm.
