Schematic designs revealed for Monash Tennis Centre in Glen Waverley Sports Hub
January 11, 2022

Lead design consultants, Mantric Architecture have unveiled final schematic designs for the $26.77 million Monash Tennis Centre in the Glen Waverley Sports Hub.

The sports hub will be located on land zoned Public Park and Recreation that is part of the Glen Waverley Golf Course and currently includes the golf driving range, existing buildings and practice facilities. The Glen Waverley Golf Course will be otherwise unaffected.

The tennis centre will add another facility to this well-known sporting precinct, which already offers netball, softball and golf. It is expected that construction will commence in the second half of 2022 and the centre will be ready for play in early-2024.

$21 million in funding is being delivered by the Victorian Government with City of Monash Council committing $5.77 million towards the project which will include:

  • 18 synthetic surface tennis courts
  • A shared-use pavilion with change rooms, public amenities, a kiosk/café, social space and club storage rooms. The pavilion will be for the use of golf and tennis club members and spectators
  • A new linear park forming a buffer between residential properties and the tennis courts
  • Drainage infrastructure improvements to the site to reduce flooding.

Another aspect of the project is the potential for environmental sustainability opportunities to be incorporated within the design including water sensitive urban design, sustainably-sourced materials with high recycled content and reduced landfill as well as low energy consumption lighting and appliances.

City of Monash Council has consulted widely during the development phase of the project and many community suggestions have been taken into consideration by the architects.

The design team will continue to finetune the final schematic design into the detailed design, which will be completed early this year.
