read moreSEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium has opened a new sensory room - marking a significant milestone in accessibility and inclusive guest experiences.
The carefully designed space offers a tranquil retreat for visitors, with a special focus on supporting neurodiverse guests.
The new sensory room has been meticulously crafted by Creative Sensory Spaces to provide a calming environment featuring soft lighting, engaging tactile elements, and soothing soundscapes. It serves as a sanctuary for individuals who may find the aquarium's vibrant atmosphere overwhelming, particularly those with sensory processing disorders or other hidden disabilities.
Ashley Hayes Social Responsibility Manager at Merlin Entertainments notes “the new sensory room provides a safe haven, where guests can regulate sensory input, manage potential overload, and find a moment of peace during their visit.”
The sensory room has been developed in collaboration with Creative Sensory Spaces and Pacific Design & Construction and several suppliers generously donated their services including Di Jones Consulting, Premier Service Group, Steyn Electrical, Indumech, Group GSA and Evolved Engineering.
As part of Merlin’s commitment to inclusivity, SEA LIFE Sydney hosts ‘Quiet Sessions’ across all attractions, offering a reduced-stimulation environment with limited guest numbers, dimmed lighting, and minimised sound. These sessions provide an optimal experience for guests who may find traditional operating hours challenging.
SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium invites guests to experience this new space, reinforcing its commitment to creating magical, accessible experiences for everyone.
