Sea Monsters exhibition opens at WA Maritime Museum

WA Maritime Museum opens its ‘Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Ocean Predators’ exhibition today and is set to impress visitors with its life-sized casts from real specimens and fossils never-before-seen in Western Australia.
WA Museum Chief Executive Alec Coles notes “Prehistoric sea monsters will ignite the imagination of children and adults of all ages. This exciting exhibition combines the latest scientific thinking with wonderful specimens and cutting-edge multimedia to re-create these extraordinary creatures and the prehistoric world in which they lived.”
Sea Monsters features more than 70 exhibits and tells the fascinating story of these once land-dwelling creatures that adapted to the sea.
The exhibition is an opportunity to view Earth's prehistoric heritage and see how today’s top marine predators compare.
Visitors will come face-to-face with life-sized casts from real specimens, including a 13-metre long Elasmosaurus and a nine-metre Prognathodon, a 1.4-metre Kronosaurus jaw, and a five-metre long fish that died after swallowing another fish whole.
Developed by Australian National Maritime Museum in partnership with Queensland Museum, the exhibition was first displayed in September 2019 at Australian National Maritime Museum. It has also been exhibited at Museum of Tropical Queensland, Queensland Museum, and Auckland Museum.
Sea Monsters is a family-friendly exhibition held at WA Maritime Museum from 1st April to 16th July 2023.
