read moreThe head of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s international arm, Lynley Marshall, has been announced as the new Chief Executive of Museums Victoria – the organisation that runs Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks and the Royal Exhibition Building.
Marshall has served in a number of senior roles at the ABC over the past 15 years, most recently as Chief Executive Officer, ABC International where she built strong partnerships across Asia.
Prior to this she was Director of ABC Commercial, responsible for all commercial and retail operations, and Director of New Media and Digital Services, leading the organisation through a digital transformation.
Marshall will commence at Museums Victoria in February, succeeding Dr Patrick Greene who is retiring after 15 years in the role. She will be the first woman to lead the organisation in its 162 year history.
Welcoming Marshall’s appointment, Victorian Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley stated “Museums Victoria plays a central role in the cultural life of our state, it has a long and illustrious history and an extraordinary recent track record under the leadership of Patrick Greene.”
“With an impressive career that spans international engagement, digital transformation and commercial operations Lynley has what it takes to lead the next stage of Museums Victoria’s evolution.”
Marshall added “I am honoured to be offered this opportunity to lead Museums Victoria and to join such a highly skilled and respected team.”
“The digital media world and exhibition spaces are becoming increasingly converged and I welcome the opportunity to bring my experiences in connecting audiences to Australian history, culture and science to this new role.”
Museums Victoria attracts 2.1 million visitors to its venues each year, and engages close to 300,000 students in its education programs.
It is recognised internationally for its research and exhibitions, and cares for a diverse collection comprising 17 million items.
