Severe weather closes Gold Coast attractions, aquatic centres and sports hubs

Severe weather closes Gold Coast attractions, aquatic centres and sports hubs
January 1, 2024

The Gold Coast is continuing to experience extreme weather conditions with localised intense rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding causing the closure on New Years Day of a number of attractions, aquatic centres and sports hubs.

The weather system impacting Australia’s east coast over the Christmas period has continued into the New Year and prevented Gold Coast attractions Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast from opening on New Year’s Day - what would have been expected to be one of their busiest days of the year.

Attractions posted their closures across social media with Village Roadshow sharing “due to severe weather, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild will be closed today, Monday 1st January 2024, for the safety and wellbeing of our team members and guests. We anticipate reopening tomorrow and will provide updates on our social media. Thanks for your understanding.”

Due to current weather conditions and limited access, City of Gold Coast has advised that the following facilities are also closed:

  • Pimpama Sports Hub
  • Upper Coomera Aquatic Centre
  • Miami Aquatic Centre

With much storm damage to properties and debris scattered across the city and with ocean and waterway conditions treacherous, communities impacted are being offered shelter at centres including Coomera indoor sports centre and Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has also been impacted by the weather and advised of closure.

City of Gold Coast has advised to stay up-to-date via dashboard.cityofgoldcoast.com.au
