read moreWith a new shade cover installed at the start of winter, Gladstone’s Memorial Park skate bowl now offers 90% more shade sail coverage.
Construction of the new sails started after March 2014 when an inspection of the facility found that the posts supporting the sails had suffered some damage.
Mayor Gail Sellers said the Council had decided to remove all of the shade sails to enhance public safety, stating “it was decided to replace those sails with a complete system which will provide skateboarders and scooter and bike riders a shaded haven for their activities."
Gladstone Regional Council Parks and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Graham McDonald added “as one of the region's most used recreational facilities, I am pleased that the skate bowl has greater shade coverage.”
Construction work on the $120,000 project began in April and was completed in May.
The Gladstone Skate Park is located at Memorial Park provides a safe and supervised venue for skating and BMX enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to enjoy.
Developed with the help of the Gladstone Sk8 committee, the skate park measures 730 metre² and caters for skate, bmx, blade and scooter. Some of the parks elements include, Vert wall, 3/4 bowl, stairs, fun box, mini ramp and grind box/rails.
One of the parks great benefits is that it caters from first timers to professionals.
