The players will deliver health and wellbeing messages to students in the Sutherland Shire (Sharks) and Canterbury-Bankstown region (Bulldogs) to reinforce the importance of maintaining a nutritious diet and regular exercise.
In the second week of Community Carnival, the NRL’s reach into rural and regional towns throughout Australia and New Zealand will extend to Alice Springs, where the Parramatta Eels will visit more than 1,000 students, and across to Bathurst where the Penrith Panthers will visit more than 20 schools.
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Captain, Jamie Lyon, will return to his hometown of Wee Waa in a Club visit across the north-western slopes of NSW, while some of his teammates will travel 1,400 kilometres to South Australia, including Adelaide-born Brenton Lawrence.
The full Gold Coast Titans squad will visit the Northern Rivers, while the Newcastle Knights will continue their tour throughout the Hunter. The St George Illawarra Dragons are scheduled to visit local schools in the Illawarra on Thursday, and the South Sydney Rabbitohs will visit the south-coast towns of Eden and Bega.
This week will also see the beginning of New Zealand visits, with eight Players from the Warriors squad set to see schools across Rotorua.
These visits come off the back of a successful first week of Community Carnival activity, with more than 30,000 students across 100 schools receiving visits from the Canberra Raiders in Wagga Wagga, the Gold Coast Titans in Toowoomba, the North Queensland Cowboys in Mackay, the Wests Tigers in Port Macquarie and the Sydney Roosters on the Central Coast
Now in its 15th year, Community Carnival sees NRL Ambassadors and players from all 16 Clubs visit a staggering 250,000 primary school students in local and regional communities throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The community message of this year’s event is wellbeing, focussing on everything from nutrition and healthy eating, to the importance of regular exercise and its effect on mental health.
