The second leg of the Singapore Pro Series Invitational presented by FTAG commences on 3rd May and will continue to benefit national amateurs who have been unable to travel for tournaments due to COVID restrictions.

The second leg follows a successful run of the first leg of the series back in March. The second leg of the tournament will be played over two days from 3rd – 4th May at the Tanah Merah Country Club.

Launched earlier this year by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA), the series of local professional golf events – consisting of a total of eight legs held across two venues – aims to provide 18 Singapore top professionals and six local national amateurs who are aspiring to be tour professionals, the chance to play and compete during the ongoing global pandemic, which will prepare them for their tour events and major games to come.

Joshua Ho, High-Performance Manager at the SGA notes “this series has been extremely beneficial for our national amateurs. They have been able to test their skills and learn from the leading professionals in Singapore. We will be rotating our players between each leg to ensure that all National and Development Squad members are able to experience this valuable opportunity.”

Hiroshi Tai, who is part of the SGA National Squad highlighted “the series is very beneficial for me as we have not been travelling for tournaments. It gives amateurs like me a rare chance to compete with the pros in Singapore at challenging golf courses.”

Another member of the SGA National Squad, Jen Goh, said, “In a year where tournament opportunities are few and far between, having the opportunity to compete against the pros allows me to continually hone my game and test myself under pressure. This is especially crucial to achieving my goal of turning professional next year.”

The series opener was the first golf event to take place in Singapore since last year. The first leg kicked off at the Sentosa Golf Club on 24th March and the tournament will conclude with a final leg in January 2022.

Singaporean golfer Choo Tze Huang was crowned the winner of the first leg of the tournament at the Sentosa Golf Club. Coming in first on the leaderboard at the end of day one, he scored 72 on the second day to finish at 1 under over two days.

In total, 16 tournament days, or eight legs, have been scheduled for the inaugural season – where touring professionals, both male and female, and leading national amateurs will compete over two days (36 holes) for a S$10,600 prize fund.

Each leg will also count towards the ‘Race to FTAG Cup’, where the winner of the Order of Merit will receive a bonus of S$10,000.
